OpenPhone busy call forwarding feature

How busy call forwarding works

As your business grows, it’s natural to want to answer all your incoming calls. However, increasing call volumes can make it challenging, especially for small teams. Busy call forwarding helps you handle more incoming calls so you can reduce unanswered calls and attend to more customers before they take their business elsewhere.

Busy call forwarding sends incoming calls to members of your shared number when you’re already on a call. Don’t have additional team members to share a number with? You can route calls to a backup forwarding number or create a custom voicemail message letting customers know when you’ll get back to them.

Busy call forwarding is available on all OpenPhone plans.

How do I forward my busy calls to another number?
down arrow

If you want to avoid missing your customer calls, you can forward your busy calls to another number using the steps below.

However, you might consider a business phone that allows you to create ring groups instead. With ring groups, you can add multiple team members to a number, so someone is always available to answer a call.

For major US phone carriers, you set up call forwarding by dialing the “star” (*) on your keypad, followed by a code.

Verizon: Dial *71 followed by the 10-digit forwarding phone number.
AT&T: Dial *90, enter a forwarding number, and press #.
T-Mobile: Dial **67* and enter the 10-digit forwarding phone number, followed by the # sign. Press the call button.
