Nextiva offers a set of tools that aren’t particularly effective for a specific channel. OpenPhone is designed for growing teams to collaborate and nurture customer relationships.
Hundreds of teams have moved from Nextiva to OpenPhone. Here are a few reasons why:
Nextiva was extremely confusing to use for us. It was impossible to know how we could use its features. Nothing was intuitive; even contacting customer support was challenging.
OpenPhone is easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to implement. Customer service is amazing — always happy to help. It's the clear choice for SMBs looking for a phone/SMS solution.

Share calls and texts with every number
With OpenPhone, you can make and receive calls and texts from every local or toll-free number in your account. Share as many numbers as you need to communicate with customers.
With Nextiva, you can only share texts if you upgrade to their Engage plan, which costs $40 per user per month.
Free texting to US and Canada numbers
OpenPhone offers free SMS and MMS messaging to US and Canadian numbers in all our plans.
Nextiva doesn’t offer texting in its base plan. Even when you upgrade, you’re only allowed to send and receive 100 inbound and outbound texts per user per month.
Call recording in every plan
Capture every customer detail with call recording in OpenPhone. Get access to on-demand call recording in the Starter plan and automatic call recording in the Business plan.
Nextiva only offers call recording as an add-on in its Core plan, which adds to your VoIP costs.
No integration add-ons
OpenPhone offers native integrations with HubSpot and Salesforce in our Business plan. You can also build custom integrations with your preferred CRM using our Zapier integration or our API.
Nextiva doesn’t include integrations in any of its plans. You have to add integrations as an add-on, even if you upgrade to their most expensive plan.
Toll-free calling on every plan
Get toll-free numbers with every OpenPhone plan. Make and receive calls anywhere in North America for free.
Toll-free numbers are only offered as an add-on in Nextiva’s Core plan. Similar to call recording, you can get access to them when you upgrade to their Engage plan.
Nextiva limits you to 2,000 toll-free calling minutes in the Engage plan. If you cross this limit, you’ll be charged per minute for toll-free calls.
Text with a toll-free number
OpenPhone lets you text your customers with toll-free numbers.
Nextiva doesn’t allow toll-free texting, which limits your ability to nurture customer relationships.

With OpenPhone, you know exactly which features are in which plan. We don’t have any add-ons so you’ll always know how much our plans cost before you sign up.

You’ll need to register your business number for A2P 10DLC compliance before you can get started sending texts.
A2P 10DLC registration is a requirement pushed for by the large US cell carriers in order to text local US numbers.
Registration time can vary from 5-7 business days to as long as 30 days. In rare cases where key information is unable to be verified expediently, registration may take longer than 30 days. CTA
