Why OpenPhone is the #1 alternative to RingCentral

OpenPhone messaging - A purple and white chat box with a video and emojis.

Call and text customers without limits

  • Send as many texts as you need

RingCentral's base plan only offers 25 texts/user/month. OpenPhone provides free SMS and MMS to the US and Canada.

  • Call worry-free with OpenPhone

RingCentral caps toll-free calls at 100 minutes.
With OpenPhone, you don't have limits on toll-free calls.

Store and access customer interactions at any time

  • No file storage limits

Call recordings and other files expire after 90 days unless you upgrade with RingCentral. Unlimited file storage comes standard on every OpenPhone plan.

Save time reviewing customer conversations

  • Get a unified view of all your communications

OpenPhone lets you view your customer calls, texts, recordings, and more, in one place.

RingCentral siloes all these interactions, making it harder for your team to get essential context.

How do OpenPhone and RingCentral compare on price?
down arrow

OpenPhone is a more affordable option compared to RingCentral. OpenPhone starts at $15 per user per month, while RingCentral starts at $20 per user per month.

Additionally, RingCentral has limits on toll-free calling minutes, business SMS and MMS, and file storage, in its base plan, which means you might have to bear additional costs if you exceed those limits but want to continue using these features. Otherwise, you may have to upgrade to a higher plan.

Does OpenPhone have fixed annual contracts?
down arrow

OpenPhone has both monthly and annual plans available to customers. Once you sign up for an OpenPhone, you’re free to cancel at any time.

RingCentral, on the other hand, has fixed-year contracts that may be difficult to terminate without paying additional fees.

How quickly can I send texts with OpenPhone?
down arrow

You can send texts with OpenPhone in 2-5 business days. You’ll need to register your business number for A2P 10DLC compliance before you can get started sending texts.

‍A2P 10DLC registration is a requirement pushed for by the large US cell carriers in order to text local US numbers.

Is OpenPhone better than RingCentral for all businesses?
down arrow

OpenPhone is better than RingCentral for most small and medium businesses. However, there are a few scenarios where RingCentral may be a better option.

  1. Large enterprises that need robust admin settings and multi-site or multi-workspace management capabilities are currently better off going with RingCentral.
  2. Large call centers that need desk phones should go with RingCentral since OpenPhone doesn’t offer traditional desk phones to businesses.
