OpenPhone vs Grasshopper

Struggling with Grasshopper? OpenPhone brings your calls, texts, and contacts together in one workspace. Build stronger customer relationships and respond faster with shared numbers, AI, and automations.

Why Grasshopper customers move to OpenPhone

We've asked hundreds of customers who have switched from Grasshopper to OpenPhone to share their reasons. Here are some of their answers:

"I tried a few different VOIP products including Grasshopper and found the software to feel very outdated - kind of like a webpage from the late 1990s or early 2000s. I switched to OpenPhone because the user experience is super clean and easy to use. I have all the tools I need and new features are being released all the time."

"We love the simple and beautiful interface of OpenPhone. There is nothing wrong with Grasshopper, we used it for years and it worked, but in comparison to OpenPhone, it feels decades out of date. In the short time, we have been with OpenPhone it's awesome to see how many new features they are continuing to add to an already robust offering. And price-wise it's a no-brainer."

"OpenPhone is head and shoulders above Grasshopper. So if you want an endorsement from somebody else, if you have someone else who's on the fence with Grasshopper... I've told people we are just beyond thrilled about it. Much superior product."

Why OpenPhone is the #1 alternative to Grasshopper

OpenPhone Call Recording - A purple screen with a chat window on it.

Call recording, on every plan

  • Record every single call

Never miss a single customer detail with call recording on OpenPhone. Grasshopper doesn’t offer call recording on their base plan.

  • Summarize every call instantly

Review calls faster and review outstanding action items with instant call summaries and transcripts, powered by AI (available on Business plan).

Send the right text at the right time

  • No texting limits

Grasshopper has a bunch of texting limitations — no texting to international numbers, and no MMS or group messaging with toll-free numbers.

OpenPhone doesn’t have any of those limitations — our toll-free numbers work just as well as our local numbers and you can text any international number whenever you want.

  • Set auto-replies for all customers

Text auto-replies help you engage with customers when you’re unable to take their call or immediately respond to a message.

Grasshopper only lets you set auto-replies for missed calls from new callers. OpenPhone enables you to set auto-replies for different scenarios including missed calls, incoming messages, and new voicemails.

  • Schedule messages based on timezones

With scheduled messages, you can draft texts to customers so that they can receive them at a convenient time for them.

Grasshopper doesn’t let you schedule messages in advance.
